Anti-Graffiti Coating: A Guide For Business Owners

One single act of vandalism can cost a business owner a lot of money, and even something as seemingly simple as graffiti can be a really problematic form of vandalism. If you own a commercial building and you are serious about keeping it protected from every angle, there are certain ways you can deter graffiti that will not cost you a lot of money. Anti-graffiti coatings are one of the easiest ways that there is to combat problems with graffiti on the exterior of your business building. Here are a few things you probably want to know about this incredible form of protection as a business owner.
What exactly is an anti-graffiti coating?
The anti-graffiti coating is a form of sealer that you paint onto the exterior of your business building to prevent paint, permanent marker, and other materials from actually sticking to the surface of the brick or siding you have in place. If someone does spray paint or otherwise mark the siding where the coating is in use, you can grab a basic high-pressure water hose and the markings will wash right off. That way, your building will look like nothing ever happened.
How does the anti-graffiti coating work?
You install the anti-graffiti coatings either by rolling or brushing it on, but there are also spray-on versions that go on the siding much faster. The coating itself is made out of a unique siloxane product that creates a non-stick surface that paint will not adhere to like it normally would. It may look like the paint is in place permanently on the building after a graffiti incident has occurred, but the material can just be wiped away much like you would wipe away debris from a non-stick skillet at home.
How long will the coating last on your building?
The best coatings will last for several years before they should be redone. One of the biggest misconceptions about anti-graffiti coatings is they only last long enough to protect against one instance of graffiti. For example, people assume that if the coating will wash away along with the graffiti paint when you have to clean off graffiti. However, this is not the case with the modern products that are capable of repelling paint and graffiti through several incidents. Plus, modern anti-graffiti coatings are not going to peel or cause the exterior of the building to take on a clouded appearance.
